Kay Lord Ceramics
Working with clay is an adventure.
My sculptures are constructed with a stoneware clay using a variety of handbuilding techniques. Each piece is unique and made without molds or patterns. After creating the work I bisque fire it in a kiln, apply underglazes and/or glazes, and then re-fire it, sometimes multiple times. After the final firing, I often embellish the surface with subtle applications of cold finishing media.
While I start with a drawing and concept, the original idea frequently changes or expands as the work develops. Ideally my work is open to a variety of interpretations - it is exciting when viewers find their own personal meaning in my work.
Thank you for looking at my work.
